My ex would sleep on his couch and never his bed because he’d play games all day long. Same shit, different furniture.

I think that looking on the bright side, this can be good in the sense that going through something like this teaches you to be more vigilant and not put up with what you previously did. In no way am I saying it’s ok, just giving an optimistic perspective!

Why do we do this?

No self respect, and thinking that’s the best you can do. But those are lies we tell ourselves, false stories we’ve convinced ourselves to believe.

I think sometimes FDS ignores the emotional reality of women. We’re raised to believe we’re less than what we are, and therefore we settle. At least she recognized that he was a LVM, but it’s still hard to let go

Yeah, I definitely recognize this. You’re very right that women get the shit end of the stick societally and men benefit from and encourage women to settle and that they deserve less. It’s also as you mention, just plain hard to let go of people you’ve grown attached to for one way or another. Humans are emotional beings, and the human need for connection is profound- so much so that we end up taking it from where we can get it when we don’t have our long term priorities straight and our self-value tattooed deep into our brains. I highly recommend therapy for most women honestly. It helps heal the wounds of generational and cultural trauma women experience on the regular.

Because we're conditioned to think any relationship is better than no relationship.
