I follow this one artist on Instagram, and for 3 entire years thought he was a woman. Anyway, his art is 2d style and he ONLY draws young, beautiful and women. Usually very respectful and rarely sexualized. One day he posted a selfie and he was some middle aged dude. I still love his art, think it's beautiful, and think he's creative, but why does he only draw young women????? It just makes me see the art through the male gaze now, which changes the entire tone.
A worse example are the guys who only draw naked women. You see their sketchbook and its just full of naked women in various positions. They're never varied body types or anything either, its always the same slim, big breasted woman every time.
Of course I don't want men to never draw women, but its so strange to me that they acknowledge women as works of art, are obsessed with our bodies and ethereal spirits, love us as a concept, but actually treat us so badly. It just annoys me that these men can draw us and use us as their inspiration, but cant be bothered to speak up for, or even empathize with our problems. It feels just a little violating honestly.
How can a man sit there and take hours to delicately draw a winged empress, but then turn around and call women btches and whres? How can you spend hours creating an interesting and strong female action character just to have her be sexualized and put in perverted compromising situations the entire game/show?? (Looking at you anime & video games)
