"So I’ve been talking to what I think is a HVM." - You don't know who a person really is by talking to them for a little while. Someone acting nice or acting some type of way for a short time, does not make them HVM.

"He has made it clear that he is very interested in me, possibly for the long haul depending on how things go (meaning he has made it known he is hoping for long term commitment, but he is not love bombing me either)" - Depending on how things go? So he makes the choices, you just take what you can get? How do you even know that you like him?

"He wanted to take me to a fancy dinner and a movie. The problem is that nothing is open- no theaters and almost no dining rooms of restaurants. Our only option is to pick something up and eat it at one of our places and then watch a movie on the couch" - Theaters won't be open, but restaurants are open now in many places, at least outdoor seating is open. If your area is under strict lock down just don't go on dates right now.

I don’t think movies in general are a good idea for a first date because you’re just watching a screen and you aren’t really getting to know each other. A movie at your or his house for a first date would be a serious no for me because it’s too early to be in someone’s space like that especially because it can easily lead to other activities.

Can you guys get creative and do something like take out food, find somewhere nice outside to sit, and then do an outdoor activity together (like badminton, volleyball, etc) if you’re sporty? I know FDS would usually be against something like that but due to the circumstances of the pandemic if you insist on dating right now he should think outside of the box.

Are parks open? What’s stopping him cooking you (or buying you) a nice, three course meal, with decent picnic ware? Something quality, not hummus and ritz crackers.

If there’s only house dates available, then I’ll echo everyone else: you don’t need to date that badly.

You have NO evidence that under normal circumstances this guy would actually be putting effort in.
