I recently broke up with a guy I had been dating for about 3 years after I took a short trip overseas (alone). During my trip I came to the realisation that he was a total LVM; a liar, a manipulator and I was so much happier/confident without him around. He had broken up with me a few times, made me clean up his shit constantly, wash his clothes etc, said he didn’t think I was his soul mate (when I had), and was pretty much always hanging out on the fence of weather we were legit long term even though we lived together. Fuck that! Once I (very gently) dumped him he flew into a crazy outrage of me ‘breaking his heart’. We both knew it was coming... I assumed he had thought so for much longer. But the break up apparently fucked him up? Is this an ego thing?

I have to mention another one of my past relationships I was not happy in, this happened to me. I was unhappy and not into the guy I was dating and when he broke up with me (and cheated on me) I was completely torn to shreds - it still affects me... but i feel nothing about this more recent break up. Does anyone have any insight into why there’s such a huge difference between being the person who is dumped and being the person who does the dumping when you feel like you don’t want to be in the relationship anyway?
