The more I read this sub, the more I reflect and notice things about the relationships around me. My dad is an overall good dude, albeit absent minded and not a great communicator. He’s been married to my mom over 30 years. One thing that stands out to me is the fact that he doesn’t buy my mom gifts. Ever. She buys gifts for herself, and says they’re from him- example: Look what you bought me for my birthday! I know for a fact that my mom has had the conversation with him of “I know you don’t care about receiving gifts, but I do. I want you to pick something out for me on holidays” and he still doesn’t do it. This past christmas, I (30F) bought my moms gifts “from” my dad. He was just as surprised as she was when she opened them. It’s not that he’s cheap or doesn’t want to spend money, I don’t think....he’s employed and makes decent money. I just think he genuinely doesn’t think about it? But it’s also like, she told you explicitly what she needs from you, so why aren’t you doing it? My moms viewpoint is “I can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. LVM?
