Serial Killers and ‘BDSM’

Yep! I actually did my B.A. paper on serial killers in American culture, and while my paper did not focus on the sexual aspect of it, during my research I did find quite a few links between BDSM-related fatasies, porn use, and serial killers.

This was a few years ago but I went back and looked over some notes that I took after reading Peter Vronsky's "Sons of Cain: A History of Serial Killers from the Stone Age to the Present" and I would like to point out two things:

While it cannot be said that porn creates serial killers, it was theorized that pornography can be a facilitator and also a conditioner. Basically, if they masturbate to something, such as violent porn, they are conditioning themselves to see women degraded and beaten as something sexy, even outside of porn or sex!

Between 1981 and 1983, around the time of the Atlanta child murders, there were three major committees on Capitol Hill that looked into the link between child abduction, child pornography, and serial killers. I don't know if the committees came to any conclusions about this connection, but the fact that the US government looked into it must count for something.

Also, a very infamous serial killer, BTK, had lots of BDSM related drawings and literally incorporated bondage into his murders. If a guy was into BDSM I couldn't help but think of this!

I remember watching a documentary about Ted Bundy and whilst he was being interviewed by a shrink, he admitted that watching violent porn as a young boy contributed greatly to his depravity.
