My ex's mother got ill one year when we were dating. She was a super nice lady, but she literally was a maid to her husband -- she worked a full time job and cooked and cleaned all the time. Very old attitudes about a woman's role in the household.
So she got sick, was tired all the time, gaining weight, and the doctors couldn't figure it out.
They finally took her to the emergency room one night. You know the big event that tipped them off that she might have had a serious illness? She didn't have dinner ready for the husband that night because she slept nearly 24 hours and missed dinner time.
Turns out, she had ovarian cancer. But remember, ladies -- if you don't have dinner ready on time, that's the only time your health is really important, because it cut into his meal time.
She died from the cancer spreading a few year later, but I never forgot that lesson about how little our lives mean to the type of man who prioritizes his creature comforts over her life.

My boyfriend always wants to cook, I sometimes have to tell him to let me cook for once 😂

Cook together? 🤷🏼♀️
[–]lacourtisan22 points23 points24 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I HATE cooking together, you just walk in eachothers way if you don't have a huge kitchen
[–]Irisma28 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I would love to but he has the habit of taking over 😂
[–]bluecat678New[S] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I used to do that! I cook professionally so it just happened I was more efficient at the tasks. My ex thought it was hilarious.

My ex would say things like he likes his girl in the kitchen cooking while he’s relaxing on the couch. Also would get mad if I didn’t have a hot meal waiting for him everyday. So annoying.

What a douche

Can we just agree that looking after a car and a maintaining a house is just a life skill?
[–]HerefortheTuna9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It is so is taking the leaves and taking out the trash and fixing the dishwasher. My bf cooks more often but I don’t think he trusts me to not spend too much at the grocery store because I will Buy a bunch of snacks and diet cokes he only eats full meals and drinks water and coffee.

What does a man who can’t cook really offer to a relationship???
I mean the simplest and warmest ways of showing love is be fed a special meal during occasions to be made special !
[–]lmarika7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
YAS!!! And even with daily chores. If both of us in the relationship are working, i don’t see why all the responsibility is to the female to do the chores.
[–]bluecat678New[S] 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It’s not. Some men are just dicks and should be thrown out of the house
[–]TrendyLeanSipper29 points30 points31 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Omg yesss. So tired of my bf trying to make me cook for him
Just do it really poorly and he will never ask again. Or tell him you don’t like the fact he’s addicted to the patriarchal mentality towards gender rolls. 🤷🏼♀️ Up to you. I prefer being direct.

Throw the whole man out!
[–]TrendyLeanSipper-2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Ugh he just pays everything for me. I put up with it 😂
[–]bluecat678New[S] 26 points27 points28 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is just as bad. Don’t let him pay for everything. That’s just a part of the problem.

Truth sisters...preach it!!!

My bf rips me to bits for not being house trained. He stays home and cooks and cleans while I’m at work then I bounce in the door like a wrecking ball, make a mess and eat everything before bed.
[–]bluecat678New[S] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It’s hard to want to clean after a work day. I live alone so I only anger myself. I’m sure there is give and take in your relationship
That’s what the meme is saying. And I agree but there are a lot of lazy fucking humans in the world that don’t want to be adults. I blame the public schools and bad parents. Except I’m a bit of an anomaly. 🤷🏼♀️

Cleaning yes, but cooking has a lot of levels to it
[–]bluecat678New[S] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Very true Home cook vs celebrity chef. Pro chefs are also doing amazing work.
[–]c46tn_2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Sure but let’s be honest.. us girls are far better at it.

How so? That’s kinda bitchy on your part. Don’t be a troll!
[–]LifeIsWackMyDude2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I kinda want to date someone who can cook so that they can teach me how to make more than just noodles. I think I'd be really motivated to learn if their food was good and then I could make something for them when they need a break or just whenever I want to cook for my SO. Plus it could probably be like a date of some sort.

You didn’t answer the question
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
the original commentor said that the community were contradicting themselves by simultaniously uploading how to not pay for dates guides and talking about challenging Gender Roles. Your question has nothing to do with his comment.
I’m with you. You sound very sensible
[–]blazeboi420time1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Why, Thank you.
[–]Phirk-1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yeah those two traits have become really gender neutral over the decades now when most people imagine a cook they don't think that its just a women. Cooking is a basic, necessary and underrated life skill. Nowadays no one really gets judged for liking sports or liking cooking/ drawing or anything of the sort
[–]bluecat678New[S] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes we do. It depends on where you live and education sometimes. Yes the rolls have become less specific to genders but the judgment of who does what is still broken down for some cultures and areas of the world.
