I also heard that 80% of the music played on the commercial radio stations are composed/produced/writtem/vocalled by men! In this day and age it is laughable.

Haven't seen it yet, but a fourth is worse than I thought. Male leads have recently stopped interesting me completely though, I'll gravitate to a female protagonist every time. And if the options are shit I'll grab a book because the options are far better for women.

When I was younger and thinking about what kind of career I wanted, part of what I wanted was an industry where I could help move women in the industry forward. So I figured engineering was legit being more male dominated. As an adult looking back it's insane to realize I could have picked nearly anything because that imbalance isn't actually limited to stem. Men being given opportunities because they have dicks and not because of their actual skill compared to women is such a poison to society and our progress.

Oh! I love that documentary, Miss-representation, I think it was called. It was incredibly informative and helped me build some media literacy and understanding on why I felt so terrible with most of what's out there. I highly recommend to the women on this sub!

That is why I read books written by women for women and which have female protagonists who don't give a flying fck about men, like Poppy Wars. I no longer watch male-lead movies except an occasional classic like Die Hard or Jason Bourne trilogy but that's it. Boycott everything male.

I just watched this doc the other day and loved it. I had read the stats before, but seeing them presented in that context really drove the point home. I too make an attempt to consume as much women-centered media as possible. Netflix is really stepping up in this particular aspect with its original content. I’m happy to report that it’s been awhile since I watched anything centered around a man. Progress is slow but it’s happening!

Unfortunately, the last male-focused thing I saw was horrifying. It was dead at the bar so the bartenders were watching a show called Dave. The first five minutes of the episode featured this male character whining about his small dick insecurities and making “jokes” about AIDS before taking a silicone ass/leg toy out from underneath a pile of dirty clothes in his closet and masturbating with it. They showed ALL OF IT. It was gross. Disgusting. Revolting. I can’t even believe someone greenlit that shit and thought it was funny. It was just plain vile. I was like, “This scene literally explains 90% of Reddit.” It also made me realize why I had completely stopped watching media centering around men. All they do is talk about dicks! I’m so over it!

I work in the film industry, and this documentary was a good watch. I wish it had been a little different, but I'm not exactly sure how. I love that it was made, for sure.

In the last decade, I've seen a huge, and I mean huge, change in the industry. Ten years ago, you'd be lucky to work with more than a few women on set, outside of the hair and makeup trailer. And when you found yourself on a female-heavy crew, no one ever wanted to talk about it, the appreciation of working with women, because then some fragile man would make it about himself and the man-hatred of wishing to not be in a sausage party.

But these days, not only is it easier to find female-dominant crews, or even all-female crews, but even men have been noticing and appreciating the difference in quality and the improvement of atmosphere. I've had conversations with men about how much more efficient and relaxed female-run sets are. I see entire departments, even the camera department (!) being all-female, and it's not even remarkable...it's becoming normal.

This is the future, we are here, and even if we have to fight to grow, we are here to stay. The bell can never be unrung, and everything is indeed on its way to change.
