Why do people always have to group Saudi and Iran as the only countries in the Middle East? Did you know that Saudi is unpopular even among religious and even extremist muslims? All muslims hate Saudi Arabia equally (the ones who know and are upto date with Middle Eastern politics).

Also, why do you guys behave as of sharia law is such a bad thing? The word Sharia literally means law in Arabic. All countries have their own sharia. Most of the laws in the middle east aren't even prescribed in holy books. Muslims didnt say to stone homosexuals in the Quran (to the contrary , the bible did) and then you can see that its simply there. So what's this irrational fear? Sharia is nothing related to Islam and isnt an Islamic terminology in the first place.

Have you ever went to some of the liberal countries like Qatar, Lebanon, UAE, Oman, Kuwait and some of the other countries? Heck. Lebanon even hosted a gay parade like a year or two ago.

(Sorry if this shits too long. I dont like it when people compare middle east to something without knowledge or just imagine that middle east is the same thing portrayed in aladdin but with bombs)

Lmao that's one of the funniest things I've heard all week

But anyway. I'm not talking about the literal meaning of the word Sharia, I'm using it how it's always used in conversation, which refers to extremist Islamic law that enforces things like women needing to wear burkas, women not being allowed to vote, homosexuality being an offence worthy of death, stuff like that. The kind of stuff that the Taliban and ISIS want. So yeah, Sharia Law- as it's used in conversation- is a pretty bad thing.

And for the third time- I don't know anything specific about individual middle eastern countries. Haven't been to any of them. Lebanon hosted a pride parade? Dope. Didn't know that, now I do and I'm glad that things are getting more progressive over there.

Sharia doesnt force women to wear burka. It isnt even a religious obligation
Voting is virtually non existent in Muslim countries and even if it is a democracy, you should know that TWO of the countries with with an extremely high muslim population (Indonesia which has the highest Muslim concentration in the world and Bangladesh which has 160 mill people which is half of US) has had female presidents before which the US has failed to do in its 200 years of democratic history. Oh bonus. Bangladesh hasn't had a male prime minister in 3 fucking decades.
Homosexuality isnt condoned here due to cultural factors as well as religious factors. These countries are rules by religion. If the US was rules by the church, I am sure stoning would be a thing again since no one would be able to stop it. The highest amount of punishment you can give for sexual misconduct in islam is something around a hundred lashes and not death. Not even stoning. So yah. Culture and Biblical influence of the past is owed to here.

Using Sharia the way westerners use it is very detrimental towards Muslims since Muslims endorse Sharia but people tend to use it in a negative light. You are criminalizing muslims for homophobia when it is still present in other parts of the world. And also, unironically homosexuality was legalized in the ottoman empire as early as 1858 (that is the 19th century for fucksake). But even back then, you westerners had to go "Muslims and arabs are backwards hurr durr" and then attack the Muslims. This is like an endless cycle. Whatever the Muslims do is always backwards is the axiom used by people from the west and the east.

Conclusion: If anyone says anything against the Islamic culture without any knowledge of their own historical and cultural backgrounds and also some basic common facts that could throw them off, they are hypocrites and phobes.
