Thank you for writing in with your feedback about the BBC News story “Have female CEOs coped better with Covid than men?” (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-54974132).
Firstly, we would like to apologise for the time that it has taken to provide a reply.
We note your concerns about the piece, and were very sorry to read that you found it sexist and that you were disappointed in the analysis and debate offered.
We would like to highlight that the piece endeavoured to explore a question, as set out in the headline and opening paragraph, not report as fact that female CEOs have coped better with the pandemic.
The article was written following the publication of an annual survey, linked to in the piece, looking at how society views women leaders. With 10 countries around the world all judging women to be less capable at leading than men, we felt it was legitimate to challenge this view and to explore the subject.
We are careful to provide range and balance and feel that this is evident in the views expressed by Sarah Beale, for example, who expressed that 'There's always a danger in saying that a trait is entirely female or entirely male, as we're all a mix of both, and different personalities”. She makes clear that she is reflecting on her personal experiences, and the views expressed are merely part of the debate.
Some of our readers felt that it was inappropriate to publish this piece on International Men’s Day. This was but one piece of hundreds published that day, and we would like to assure you that it was not intentionally scheduled to cause offence.
We do value your feedback about this. All complaints are sent to senior management and your points were included in our overnight reports. These reports are among the most widely read in the BBC and feedback helps inform future content decisions.
Thank you again for taking the time to correspond with us.
Kind regards,
BBC Complaints Team
What a crazy response ! they want to challenge the idea that men are better leaders by saying women are better leaders ! because the first is sexist but not the second !!

At least is seems your complaint (apparently you weren’t to only one) had some impact. Not that I think the BBC would care about this overnight report.
