Guys it has been a great time so far and its far too early to start the circle jerk but we are near the magic number of 10k! yes 10.000 subscribers to mgtow on this subreddit alone.

If you ask me we should have some kind of small online celebration once we hit the 10k mark. I've been around this sub for a year now and I've witnessed its growth from 6k to almost 10k now. One new subscriber at a time.

We might not always agree and we give each other some much needed piece of mind from time to time.. but guys it has been great so far and this sub is only going to grow.

So I guess I just want to say thanks to all of you who help to shape mgtow on a daily basis by living the lifestyle and taking the time out of your daily routine to help a brother out by trying to give some much needed advice.

Here is a recent message from a reddit admin:

Hi /r/MGTOW mods, As you probably already know, on December 15 we started running all old deleted accounts through a cleanup process that (among some other things) removed the deleted accounts from subscriber lists. This cleanup process finished running on January 6, and since then I've had a number of mods contact me to ask exactly how many subscribers this caused their subreddits to lose. So I decided to just send out a modmail to everyone that lost at least 100 subscribers to give them that information: There were 561 old deleted accounts that were still being counted as subscribers in /r/MGTOW that were removed by the cleanup. Going forward, deleted accounts will automatically be unsubscribed 90 days after the account is deleted. Please let me know if you have any questions, thanks for all your hard work as always.

Interesting. That would be the accounts that were literally "deleted" -- and which the software should have already been removing from the subscriber counts as a matter of course (by definition, when an account gets "deleted" it "unsubscribes" from all subreddits).

What I am talking about is the far larger number of entirely inactive (i.e. "abandoned" but not deleted) accounts that people setup, used for a short period of time, and then simply forgot about; either because they've moved off of reddit, they've forgotten the password, or because (and I say this rather sardonically in commenting from THIS account) the account was intended to be something temporary, aka a "throwaway" account, and that was actually how they ended up using it.

I'd be willing to bet the number of those "abandoned" accounts is far larger than the "deleted" ones -- especially in a forum like /r/MGTOW where there is an understandable rationale for creating a unique account.

Plus of course for most of those, the owners of any such "throwaway" account quite possibly (probably?) have "subscribed" from other main accounts as well... meaning that they are double (even triple or quadruple) counted in the total.

Put all of that together and the number of actual (i.e. human persons sho are) "active" subscriber-readers is probably somewhere around 1/3 to 1/4 of the total subscriber count (or less)... and that would be including people who are only intermittent or occasional "lurkers" (or at least those who have hit the "subscribe" button) who never even post a comment.

But don't underestimate the reach.. we are hitting over 1M page views a month.

Which is really not all that much.

"Page views" are heavily skewed to the most involved people in the community -- they're sort of akin to "how many times did the front door of the store open?" (but in this case when there essentially is only the one door, so the staff and everyone else uses it too).

The problem with that -- the whole "more traffic" view -- is that it ignores the Pareto rule (i.e. 80/20, etc). I mean for example, the recent /u/T0000009 venture off into other subreddits, which brought in a whole "brigade" probably boosted/distorted total page views rather substantially above normal for a few days -- but that's hardly productive or natural/organic "traffic" growth.

That doesn't mean it's an entirely worthless metric; especially if it's mainly used on/for an internal history comparison basis -- and without too many "distortion" incidents like the one I mention above -- but it's more a representation of total "activity" (i.e. busyness of the core participants) than it is of "reach".

Page views are always a tough metric, you never know what the quality is on them. New or repeat, refresh, or a reload, so it skews off by nature. Depending on the tool kits the site has you could flesh out the real numbers, but any traffic is good traffic and keeps things robust and moving.

I roam all over, no leash, no restriction, and if I can draw a crowd and get eyes on the page for the men who may be ready or on the fence it's worth it to me if I take some heat. I'm not afraid of some wanker using naughty words to hurt my feelz, I just laugh at them and carry on with my flamethrower.

You also never know how far and wide those disruption events can ripple, a copy paste on some blog, a link to an article, or text in a video, all that does is draw people in, so it may throw the numbers off for a day or two on Sunday, but by Friday you have a big influx of new actual page one hits.

It's a gamble either way...

Exactly. It's a measure of "activity" not necessarily anything beyond.

realistically that's what you want, bodies in seats even if they don't like the show. Sometimes planting the seed and letting it start to grow is what people need, as with evolution it's a slow process so the hard sell isn't always the best.

Failure to understand that has doomed many things.

I'm with you on that to a point, but there are times when that stampede pays off, it's just not seen immediately and you must be able to weather the storm first, which is where a lot of the crash and burn comes in. I'm all for the natural growth, but look at Trump as an example.... His rallies are huge, and even though he prepares for a big on it's not ever enough room. The inverse obviously is paying huge coin for a giant room and having 5 people walk in.... It's a tough act to balance both sides of customer flow and sales message.

I don't think you really are. In fact I think it's something you likely have yet to learn (or rather "unlearn").

Which by definition reveals that there are other times when it doesn't.

What matters is the ratio; or more specifically distinguishing and creating the right KIND of increased traffic -- as opposed to the wrong kind.

Being oblivious to the distinction -- basically the "don't worry, we'll make it up on volume" -- is ignorant in the extreme.

As for Trump, there is a specific dynamic that is being tapped into there -- it's not as blind or random as you seem to think.

Again, I agree, but there is tactical value in poking a beehive sometimes, and the payoff can be massive if done correctly which takes wisdom to pull off. Way to many lack the brains needed to do it right so you end up with a disaster.

Nope, I am, simply moving in from a different perspective than yours. No harm no foul there slick, and sometimes it's very market specific, or customer specific, there are a lot of moving pieces to contend with and a two paragraph comment isn't a Trieste on the mechanics of social message sales and page views.

Like I said already, I'm aware it's a gamble, and it takes a certain moxy to pull off, I don't discount the potential for a massive failure either, that's part of the risk. Maybe I'm not being clear enough or leaving out stuff... No worries, I am not in the "volume" camp so it's cool, which was why picked the Trump events. Huge space, hard to prepare for, payoff unknown, high cost, but when it's an overflow of positive it makes the "risk" or "stress" of putting it together worth the "cost" up front. It could go in the opposite direction too, and then it becomes a loss... It's always a gamble and you just have to feel the dealer and the table sometimes to know the right play.

It's not just a weak comparison, it's a misleading analogy. It presumes that there is some benefit, some gain, when in fact there is not only no gain, but there is a cost.

And in the present case -- this forum -- YOU perhaps don't fully realize the cost, because you're not the one "paying" it; you not a mod who then has to deal with the massive influx of trolls and shit comments that result from your "packing the house."

No, there isn't. There is value in destroying a wasp nest, but there is no value at all to be derived from "poking" a beehive -- there is no "payoff" that results -- in fact it's a childish activity, akin to sticking screwdriver into an electrical socket and then laughing about the "shock" that results; or to playing around setting fires randomly and then running away laughing at the conflagration.
