Dopamine is also why smart phones are so addicting.
To decrease this, I turn off my colors after 6pm. I set up a triple tap short cut to do this grayscale palette.

Excellent. Yes, and blue-blocking glasses for any viewing screen / movies / etc. after dark. Helps prepare your body for sleep.
I recommend all men take 3 capsules of ZMA (per dosage recommendation) on empty stomach at night to help rebuild and restore - especially after working out.
[β]slamdunktiger861 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Yea, I have Flux installed on all my computers for automatic blue light filtering.
ZMA is a must. I got on that when I started intermittent fasting. That and fatty acids.
[β]R3dd1tSuux0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Sweet, Flux FTW. Been doing IF for a while, miss the regular gym but the rhythm is natural and I don't crave carbs like I used to.
What kinds of fatty acids do you use? Do you have the APOE3 gene? I go for omega 3 / fish oils and moderate meat or other sources with higher saturated fats. I have one allele, so mono-unsats are better for me than sat-fats.
[β]slamdunktiger861 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Sup man!
Yea.. I miss the gym like a mofo. Deadlifts + Squats + bench + the sauna. JRE got me hitting the sauna like crazy, it really really helped. Some days I don't even lift, I just do 3x15 min in the sauna with a gallon of water and podcasts on 2x or just chill to deep house while meditating.
Oh yea, jiu jitsu. Fuck man. Not wrestling for dear life makes jogging 4 miles a day VERY BORING. It's all good. Going to go back with a vengeance.
I haven't quite worried about my ratio of omega's 3's and 6's. I'm vegetarian, been doing that for 15 years. I still cook steaks for friends and my girl, it's weird. I can figure out seasoning and tenderness by touch and smell. I love cooking surf and turf.
Dude, I wish I discovered IF so much earlier in life. It's so much easier than CICO, it just maps so nicely against a high glycemic lifestyle. And of course doctors don't want to talk about. There's no money in it! (What do I do doc to lose weight? NOTHING β go watch more Netflix!) Lol. It's made jiu jitsu weight drops SO MUCH EASIER. I think I'm going to scare the crap out of my next weight bracket when tournaments start up again. 6'3" at 180ish pounds soon bawahahaha. Get body triangled motherfucker!
I haven't tested for APOE3 gene, I'm southern Chinese and the allele frequency is quite low for my ancestral region. Would be nice to look that up later, thanks for bringing that up. Where did you get your tested? I'm really hesitant to use any genetic testing service. They all seem to be owned by the aliens with little hats. They can 23 and go fuck themselves.
For my fatty acids, I go with Whole Food's Flaxseed fatty acids and their brand of cal mag zinc. Worked really well. I overdose like crazy. Depending on my workload and physical catabolic destruction:
Flaxseed oil (cold-pressed 1000mg): 500mg Omega 3, 110mg omega 6, 110mg Omega 9, other fatty acid chains of 50mg. what's that.. 1:1:5 ratio? βΒ (vegetarians have different oxidative stress though) --->3-12 of these
Cal-Mag Citrate with Vitamin D3 400 IU of Vitamin D3 500mg Calcium 250mg Magnesium ---> 1-3 of these
Plus, I go through a bunch of other vitamins/minerals from Amway's Nutrilite regimen. I have my own business there and checked out their organic farms before in SoCal. Really turned me onto plant concentrates and organic farming. They use to have a really dope algae based fatty acid but got discontinued. Fuckers.
I also do a few superfoods on a near daily basis: -seaweed -sprulina -maca powder -matcha powder -a different tea/day -dry flaxseed -hemp powder -pea protein powder -apple cider shots -olive oil shots -raw garlic -raw onions -cinnamon -turmeric -walnuts -almonds
Natural Vitamin D (trying to save money) β I stopped taking Vitamin D supplements (unless it's raining). I jog outside shirtless everyday now for 45-60 minutes so I think I'm getting enough exposure. I take right up to about ten minutes before I start burning.
Oh yea, iodized salt + ZCM + water upon waking as I rarely eat breakfast.
Uh, I'm getting really fucking bored of eating plants only. I'll hit 16 years of vegetarianism this fall. Will see what's up. I think I'm going to upgrade to fishing/hunting and eating what I catch + eating sushi at Michelin spots. No shitty corn fed bullshit. I want either the best or none at all.
My diet would be 100x easier if I could just enjoy a small ribeye everyday. Fuck.
I cook bone-in Tomahawks for my bitch. She's very happy. lol. Scallops and Gordan Ramsay eggs (chives I grow) on bread that I bake.
Honestly, I overkill it on the nutrition. I'm good at the workout part and I don't sleep well enough or consistently enough. I'm a night owl and if I don't watch it, I'll find that it's 1-3am and still be very happy and energetic. Corporate life however dislikes this sleeping schedule ha.
I discovered edibles three years ago and started using it more regularly last year to sleep better. It really helps. 20-40mg before bedtime and I can be out by 10:30pm β that usually never happens unless I do like half an iron man. (former iron man) β shit, I really wish I discovered this earlier in life.
I knew Ambien was terrible for you with the 20-30% increase in all cause mortality. That seems unholy. I met some girls who alternated between (AM) Ritalin and Ambien (PM) and they were cluster fucks soooo I learned early to stay away from psychiatry and pills that come out of bottles with printed labels.
take care bro, great to chat mang.

Dude, you ROCK! I'll take this in (save it off-line) and get back to you. I think we do some of the same things, and you've added more to my awareness - thank you very much.
The sleep thing I get you on. Yeah, I've been going to sleep around 3a most of this quarantime. I guess forcing yourself up at 6, 7, 8a will help your body reset to sleep earlier. Also watch out for salt which will stimulate your system more and keep you up later. Coffee / caffeine as well.
I like Thomas DeLauer's channel on YT, good keto-oriented advice.
I find some carbs in the evening helps to trigger (IIRC) more melatonin release. Thomas has mentioned how fats are utilized more efficiently in the morning, and carbs more at night (plus the sleep benefits).
I also like Dr. Eric Berg's advice (YT channel).
It seems the edibles are really helping you sleep so worth keeping or using when needed. Oh, and I was going to mention magnesium calm or a magnesium supp which really helps mellow you out. Lots of ways to skin that cat...
More later, take care, and thank you again!

Very cool man, I think we follow a lot of the same guys.
DeLaurer reminds me a lot of Wonderboy if you follow MMA, he has that peppy cheeriness which I appreciate in small doses.
How can we not mention Jeff from Athlean? cough cough I mean, "JEFF CAVALIERE athleanx.com!"
Dr. Berg is a fucking bad ass. I love his shit. So concise, so punchy, diagrams and everything. His OMAD video hella inspired me, I'm like 50-80% OMAD most of the time.
Dr. Rhonda Patrick is awesome.
Dr. Peter Attia is a baller too. He's also the Chief Medical Officer for Zero. Do you use that to track your IF? It is amazing. Tracks sleep, resting heart rate, weight, mood. Really seamless.
I also have a scale that measures lots of data: weight, water %, body fat %, bone mass, visceral fat and BMR. From that data, I also do, weight in fat, gallons of water in body (I just think it's cool to know, if you read Dune by Frank Herbert, the whole body water obsessiveness made a lasting impact on me, plus, your water % is correlated directly to your vitality. You're nearly 90% as a fetus and and when you're 20-40% ish, you die. I really want to get back to 60% water, I'm at 56%. Fat is sooo hydrophobic. I know when I'm at 60%, I'll also be 10-12% body fat, currently 16%). I have these crazy spreadsheets that log all of that, I've been tracking all of this data since college. I also aggregated all my blood work history, I know what my baseline for nearly any key metric for the last 13 years. Data data data. I'm a stat nerd. I was almost an accountant/finance guy β I love spreadsheets and record keeping lol.
All that said, I think besides the sleep thing, I think the second biggest paradigm shift is learning to watch my resting heart rate. When I'm not recovered, everything just sucks. Then if you stay in that zone too long, you'll get sick. For that reason, the Apple Watch changed my life. I still wear my Series 1. I could easily upgrade but fuck that, I got gold to buy, ESPECIALLY in this market. :) So yea, shitty resting heart rate also correlated with eating shit, wanting comfort food, going too heavy on caffeine which then affected sleep and now I'm sleep deprived even more, just a bad spiral. But yea, now, I check it eagerly every morning and then will know how hard to go on workouts, if I can OMAD or go 24-96 hours on a fast, etc. It's really helped make it objective and simplify my cascade of daily decisions. It's sort of like, on those days where you're strong, you just feel strong down to your very cellular level... I checked my data and yup, 7.5+ sleep, strong resting heart rate, etc. It's just so simple.
If I could ONLY have two data points to look at, I'd want to know my sleeping resting heart rate and my lipid panel data. Everything else is noise. If you're strong, you're strong. And if your fatty acids and lipids are where they should be, everything will flow. That's literal, it's basically a proxy for heart and artery health. You're only as young as your arteries. (Learned that from the Okinawa study, a landmark book that came out 15 years ago on THE longest living population group on the planet. Extremely counter-intuitive in some respects. Highly recommend checking that out.)
Hey man, if you'd like to collaborate, I'd love to put together some concise up to date articles on this. Might be sticky worthy or eventually end up on the MGTOW sidebar. I think the general public is more keto friendly than ever. With the MGTOW guys, we have a lot of pioneers from TRT to weirdos like me who do vegetarian OMAD. I'd like to also add footnotes to link pubmed studies and all that.
As you can tell, I like health haha. I think every individual needs to take ownership of health and wealth. There's really nothing else. Vocation of course, but everyone has one, but not everyone has health and wealth. Hard to GYOW if you're dead.
Lemme know if you're down man!

GYOW will reveal true bliss within you. A disciplined mind, body, and soul, and the peace that is beyond all understanding. This is ecstatic union with the Creator.
When external dopamine sources - tools for our control - lose their allure, we return home.

Genesis 32:30 βfor I saw god face to face and named it pinealβ
The pineal gland is the face of god for it helps transmits and receive frequency from the mind and to the mind.
