Yesterday i was at dinner with some friends having fun.
At a table for 2 near us, there was this couple: you could say they are in their mid 20s. He is a medium looking college guy, she is a medium looking college girl. Nothing extraordinary on both sides.
It was painful to watch, these 2 basically never talked to each other and usually looked away at the other tables, bored.
Sometimes he would engage in a meaningless conversation, she would nod a little, some fake smirk, then back to watching other people, with face resting on her fist. Or checking out their phones, obviously.
Finally, they get served and she takes some room to breathe. They eat their meal, in complete silence.
We then went out because we finished ours, but i can assure you this went on for more than an hour. It was a pain to see.
This reminds me of when i was in that same situation with some chick i used to date. How i feel better now.
The pressure, those heavy silences, that feeling so opposite to calm and peace.
I am glad i am not that guy anymore.
I would have been able to whisper in his hear to run away, but i couldn't.
Why do people put themselves in situations like that? Just to say they have a girlfriend/boyfriend? Just to be cool about it?
I would rather stay at home reading a book. This is way too meaningless to be a reasonable thing to do.
WHY??

i feel exactly how you feel and i have been where you have been too. Those shit test conversation were just so meaningless, you could hear that coming from a distance.
It was so toxic and honestly painful to live. And absurdly as it seems, it was hard to get out of it because of said fear of loneliness.
I have embraced the fact that loneliness is awesome and people really forget the enormity of benefits it provides.

Checking out people at other tables = "I can do better, how do I break this off?"
