And now data of 143 million Americans were leaked under her leadership. I blame affirmative action programs but still she should be apologizing publicly to all these people and announcing her resignation publicly.
[–]WantToBe3607 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Was the leakage her fault, or an error from past leaders?
I hate to say it, but we cannot rightly blame her for this.
[–]secant12811 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Doesn't really matter. If it's the case that there's an error from past leaders, it's her fault for not noticing it and rectify immediately. One of the engineers there would certainly know and informed her about this. If not then she didn't know how to hire good engineers to help her which is her fault as well. This is the responsibility you have to bare being a chief. Everything is about you because you are chief you have the power, who told you to get that position?
To be fair I think she's a figurehead used by the company to virtue signal while the actual experts work at the back. But still chief is chief.

The hack happened from a security breach in Apache web server. But the thing is, the breach was discovered a few month ago (in march) and was patched within the day.
Equifax failed to apply the patch to correct the breach for several months!
And making sure the software is up to date to prevent those hack is clearly in her scope. She just sucks at her job!

had it happened before her tenure she would have shaken it off, but she resigned so they decided she's culpable.
120 million accounts is total negligence. I can understand a few hundred thousand or so accounts stolen, but a company whose sole purpose is to protect your identity gets raided in the hundreds of millions -- that's criminal and they should be shut down.

She didn't fix it as someone who was in charge. Doesn't matter if someone prior started it, she is just as responsible for failing to fix it.

How is affirmative action related?
[–]RainbowBitches24 points25 points26 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That's what you call sucking dick to get to the top.

Apparently she "retired" today and a man stepped in to clean up the mess.
[–]Gobc0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
When the going got tough, and she had to answer for her responsibility, she ran away. You go girl!

UPDATE: she 'retired' today...and a SHITLORD took her place! SMASH THE PATRIARCHY!!

Maybe this won't be popular here, but I know crapton of people in IT that don't have degrees related to IT.

They were caught using admin as username and password as password https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/14/equifax-used-admin-for-the-login-and-password-of-a-non-us-database.html
[–]I-am-the-lul11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That's breaking the most basic of rules for passwords.

You are right of course. My orgs' current IT manager is an mba who taught himself IT to better be able to manage it. On the flip side, my current manager is unqualified for her role and is being propped up by me and the other senior guys. Everyone except for management was shocked when she got her job. An outgoing director (male) told me in confidence that the only reason she got the job was politics. They wanted more women managers for our contract rebid.
In this case we can't tell without seeing the rest of the linked in profile.

There are many unqualified people in IT. There are many unqualified people, in general, that are overpaid and overpromoted.

Equifax in Argentina had a default username and password were admin/admin. I'm honestly surprised they weren't hacked long ago.

This is about to get interesting folks. People want answers as to why she had this important job.

If a woman gets a degree in anything a company will hire her into management or purchasing to fill a diversity quota for appearances. Problem is when she doesn't move up the ranks to CEO she will sue you for gender bias. If you make her CEO she will run the company into the ground. Multi-million dollar investors won't invest in a company ran by a woman because of this. Watch a companies stock value drop when it puts a woman in charge.

Wow just WOW!!! Equifax should be penalized for this ridiculous misjudgment & mismanagement.

I can't be too mad myself. I have a music degree, and I'm pursuing completely unrelated work.

I wonder if she even wrote any music. I guess spending all those years a university then actually doing something with it would be a bit much to ask.

She probably never had a pro gig in her life and can't write a decent I-IV-V tune without mentioning cats and shopping.
It isn't abnormal at all for people to move into different roles as executives. At that point the technical side of security is not something that she deals with... just sayin. My company for example has a chief marketing officer who was an engineer before moving into that position. The job is essentially direction and leadership. Edit: and educational background isn't everything. Who knows what experience she has outside of college. Not trying to defend her, the incident falls on her. But, this isn't a good reason to flame her tbh. Not enough info, just a meme.
