In real life, marriages back in the medieval period mostly happened to strengthen relationships between families of different households. Women where not treated with that much respect. I doubt the knights at that time actually did this formally. And if they did, those were the days you could smack a bitch for acting out and if she divorced you she’d be shamed as an outcast or have her head cut off for being an adulterous woman, while the knight fought the wars.
