My best friend since high school is getting married soon and asked me to be one of the groomsmen. Felt very honored and told him of course I would. The problem is I live a state away and he thinks I'd have to be down there for a atleast a week, if not two. Thing is there's like 5 grooseman already besides me.

He wants all the groomsmen to have matching suits, meaning we all have to go to the same place to try them on and etc. Expected to be there at the dinner rehearsal or whatever too, thing is right now I'm looking for a job and don't have much capital to even invest in my car (and he knows this). I just feel like crap because I want to be there to support him but financially adding up all my meals, gas, drinks, wedding gift, is it really worth it to go at my own detriment? I don't even know if I get employed that I'll be in a postion to ask for that much time off (don't wanna start off coming off like that either, that's not a good impression). Thing is I know he'll take it hard if I cancel or bail, and I know all the mutual friends will shame for "being cheap". On the other hand I don't want to feel guilty the rest of our friendship that I wasn't there.

Suggestions?
