Hypergamy is an impulse and innate belief in women that they deserve and are entitled to have better than what they already do, be it man, money, or whatever. Women always want a man with more wealth, better looks, and a higher social standing than they themselves occupy. They literally do not even see men who they consider beneath them.
But hypergamy floats.
As soon as a man raises them to his own level by associating with them, they think they are worthy of even better. This is the motivation for their monkey branching.

in the absence of no clear higher value man, hypergamy will rig her subconcious mind will find weak points in her current man to "lower his value" in order to make another man appear of higher value to her. then, she will do the same to that other man.
Even if you are objectively the highest value man, you will still lose to her internal hypergamy justification engine.

Yeah, that's the thing. Back in the golden age, Superman might have grunted at her or barked a few directions her way and flown off. Clark Kent, on the the other hand, got a firsthand view of Lois Lane under daily circumstances.
There wasn't any weird mental anguish about should I tell her or just fuck her while in Superman mode. It was just plain "fuck that noise" on his part.
