Your comment fails to account for Japan's history as perhaps the most martial culture on earth. Japanese culture has a lot of emphasis on being polite and respectful. As a feudal society (up until the late 1800s), a large majority of the population was armed, and trained with their weapons daily.

Okay. From the brief time I've spent here I'm going to assume you folks have a reverence for what you view as "classical males" like Roosevelt and such.

No apology was issued. The best part of what turned out to be a lot of pushing and shoving was a brief, imperceptible moment when the two guys were chest to chest. Fingers were jabbing, eyes were narrowing, peacock feathers were sprouting out of khaki-clad asses. Somewhere buried deep in this moment of macho-posturing I could swear they were going to kiss. Fighting over a woman is lame. It’s normally just an excuse for two men to go penis-to-penis against each other. It is not the right fight. I don’t know any woman who appreciates the gesture. You are having to remember this starts in childhood. When a kid faces a bully what are his opinions? Tell, stick up for self or fight. Telling online makes future emasculated men because they only can get help. Next is confrontation. You talk about it, either he backs off or he doesn't. At this point either take the bullying while waiting for help or fight. I would rather my child be cordial and intellectual but don't tolerate bullying. Thus if he was the one to knock out the drunk verbally abusive person at a funeral or a kid who's harassed him everyday for the past few months even after he changed class, I won't be made.
You talk that passive and intellectual cognitive thinking if you want without letting your child know bullying is never okay because it doesn't vanish and if warnings and talking doesn't work, you might have to fight or jump if he's significantly bigger than you and another kid combined, the bully to make your problem go away. You confront problems and try to find a smart resolution but if at an impasse you fight. Think about how wars were raged, the men talked and if it didn't work you fight.
If someone is being a rude a hole and doesn't want to stop, pushing them or physically annoying them is an equal response, because now you are annoying each other until you both stop, as a resolution or you fight.
