Because :

divorce usually favors women;
women only find 20% of men attractive, as a result most women marry a man they don't really love, at least not in the sense their husband loves them;
even married women have to deal with constant attention from thirsty men. That gives them the confidence to consider monkey branching.
The welfare state makes requirement for a providing husband less and less necessary. And if that husband can't even provide, he becomes completely useless.
Feminism made women believe they can have both a family and a career by themselves, suggesting a husband is optional.

My best friend's wife of over 10 years just did this. He is a strong, honest "man's man." Very successful local attorney; bought her a hobby farm. Two kids. He's the type of guy everyone is friends with and who you love to go out drinking with.

After 10 years of marriage and 6 years dating in college/grad school, she left him because she "was not happy anymore" and was "bored." Found some younger dude online apparently.

Here is the kicker---her whole family thinks she is loony and he has a standing invitation to all family get together's.

I mean, my buddy is not perfect (no one is), but is he a confident, successful, "type-A" person who was the last person I would think would get divorced.

Thing is...she hit the wall hard, did not keep in shape, and is not much to look at. The "new guy" is some dude who attends community college and plays video games all day.

It makes zero fucking sense.

Because they have no reason to keep the marriage going. Once they have the guy earning enough and a kid or two, they got their meal ticket for life

"I am not happy"

I have had many instances in life where I was not "happy". Did I quit? No. I persevered. I overcame. I was the better man for it. They can do whatever they want now.

As an aside, my ex got exactly what she wanted in the divorce. Now, spousal is paid off and I support my offspring. The ex thinks I should pay her more. It is this entitlement mentality that drives the insanity. Stay safe Brothers. Protect yourselves.

Typically speaking, divorce costs men WAY more than it does women - financially, emotionally, and with the tearing apart of the family where he doesn't get to see the kids. Divorce is so hyper punitive toward men, that it's actually better, from a cost perspective, for men to stay in a bad marriage, so they don't seek the divorce.

For women, it's the opposite. Divorce is a payday where she gets the house, kids, and more than half of everything he makes. So naturally they file more.

How to explain? I find that these data are consistent with what I and others have seen clinically. When men and women seek couples therapy and then subsequently divorce; or, when either partner seeks individual therapy about a marriage conflict that ends in divorce, it’s often the woman who expresses more overt conflict and dissatisfaction about the state of the marriage.
