I agree with the OP, don't get carried away by your emotions.
They need to be tempered with reason, memory, etc.

On the other hand, emotions are an integral aspect of being humans. All decisions are ultimately emotional. There may be reason and logic first, but in the end it's how you feel about that train of though that leads to a decision.
We know this from studies of patients with brain lesions, and from cases like Phineas Gage. Damage to his emotional centers rendered him self destructively indecisive. In essence, he was destroyed by his inability to give a shit about anything at all.

The trick here is not to repress emotions, but to be able to open a space where you can see them clearly while "holding your seat." Observe your emotional reactions, and be curious about what caused them. When you can see that they are some scripted reaction installed in your brain during your upbringing, you can cease being a slave to them. When the signal a reaction to something of consequence, you can actually tap in to subconscious wisdom.

As to getting emotional about a woman, yeah. In this day and age it's pretty much all downside risk, for very little benefit.
So in light of my comments above:
If you are getting emotional about a woman, you need to self examine. Does this have to do with scripts and Disney ever-after fantasies installed during your upbringing? Your thoughts about the future with this woman - are they true? Can you know they are true? What if the opposite was true? Who would you become if you didn't believe your thoughts?

All men should learn to work skillfully with their minds. Be it Sedona Method, Meditation, Hoffman Process, Landmark Forum, whatever - each of them has much to offer and none of them is perfect by any stretch. Still, personal growth is essential for a fulfilled life.

In this regards, it is very similar to warfare. Preparation is crucial so that when a decision needs to be made, emotions don't cloud judgement.

What I have learned is that you Are emotional. Ignore that at your own peril. Find a way to maintain your emotions. Just like maintaining your health or car.

I do not know how to do it, but from what I am reading the only real way to do it seems to be meditation.

Being unemotional has only upsides. You decide yourself what you want to focus on. Self-awareness does not mean indifference. I have yet to find how emotional bullshit is actually useful to me rather than others' agendas.

I can't stand the constant appeals to feelings over reality, especially when it comes to "need"-based morality over actual justice. I don't care if a stupid kid who jaywalked to death has "heartbroken" parents, some "refugee" fake child thinks he is entitled to welfare, Western kids allegedly are so poor they have nothing to eat, some thug had a bad childhood and perhaps some brain damage. Breaking a taboo, I even recognise that the recent death of my mother was great since younger siblings will now have someone much better who takes care of them and no one is going to be abused any longer by that perpetual leech. All these attempts to manipulate me by shaming piss me off. And let's be real, the people who advocate me giving in to all this are not selfless, but have very clear agendas.
