If you think about it, it is a ridiculous notion to spend so much money for a stone so a woman can feel validated, that is if she excepts the size, color, clarity of the stone. It is another way women can show off to her friends and receive attention. In the end when they leave you they will take that ring with them and many women have multiple engagement rings that they have kept over the years. I am going my own way and no longer will I kneel before a woman or give my hard earned resources to any woman.

After the fall, when the dust from the decline settles out and rational heads prevail we can re-think divorce.

Perhaps require a dowry, put in Trust, from woman's family so she can get it back if she initiates divorce, and that's all she gets. Or when a court of male peers deems her too ugly to pose a threat to the family so the dowry becomes available.

Diamonds are not in fact owned by the wife but get passed to each successive daughter as part of a particular dowry.
