This is the only correct response.
At best the buddy in the hat spends the rest of his life exhaustively but successfully fending off buff dudes from banging his gf/wife.
The chances of that seem incredibly unlikely since he cannot possibly be there to physically walk her away from buff dudes every time she goes to the gym.
More than likely, he is playing a game he will lose outright. But the lost effort (an entire lifetime's worth) spent on winning hardly seems worth it.
The sooner he loses the better, for him.

I'm reminded of the time I met up with an old school friend (an average looking guy, to be frank). His girlfriend was supposed to come along later and join us. The moment he saw me after all those years, he got restless. So fucking restless that when she called him and said she was just about to arrive, he immediately broke it off with me and said he really had to go and we would catch up some other time.
