Has anyone else seen this flick? A documentary on Netflix about a famous yoga instructor who has had several charges of sexual assault thrown his way.

I'll be the first to say I don't know whether the guy actually raped anyone or not. I'm not convicting, nor defending the dude on that charge. If he is a rapist, then obviously he's a piece of shit and should face the consequences.

That said, it was hard to take seriously a lot of this documentary. I think feminists have achieved pretty much the opposite of what they set out, and now instead of being inclined to 'Believe Women', my first instinct is to go "Hmmm.. Really?". The doc features a bunch of interviews, mainly with women, who oftentime complain about what sounds to me as relatively innocuous behaviour (having a fan on him while the yoga class sweats, getting the group to finish his catchphrases / sentences, swearing / behaving eccentrically) with just as much seriousness and conviction as when they detail the alleged assaults.

The usual talking points are all there. He's a man of power who thinks he can get away with anything, his classes are made up of innocent and impressionable females, etc...

The editing and soundtrack are as manipulative as one might expect. Shots of him adjusting postures (as a yoga teacher would) while ominous music underscores his accusers tales of him soliciting massages, dramatic testimonials (they felt... put on).

Like I said, there are some accusations which are more serious, but the whole tone of the film just leaves me suspicious. The angry blue haired lady, is she telling the truth? The woman who received mucho moola via settlements - were they motivated to take him down because of his money? They of course extrapolate from this one case the prevailing narrative of how we must stop Big Bad Men who have all the power and support traumatized victims. It's all a little suspect.

This is how I think now. Again, it could be 100% the case that he's a legit 'predator', but that term has become so overused that I'm ever more suspicious when these MeToo stories come out. There have been too many cases of bullshit, I don't know what's what anymore.

Anyway, it's not exactly a huge watercooler cultural moment or whatever, but if any others here on the sub have seen it and wish to contribute their thoughts, agreeing or disagreeing, with my observations, would love to hear.
