Every time Cardi B comes up in pop culture I laugh. 99% of the people that like her have no idea about the reality of her past as a stripper/escort. I used to do the escort/stripper thing quite frequently, have gotten to know a few of them - and therefore have had quite a bit of exposure to what that world is like. It’s sad. It’s dirty. It’s fraught with drug addiction and mental health problems.

The whole coercion of young women by predatory men (as pimps) wasn’t near as big an issue as people make it (almost-non-existent, though there was 1 time I saw some shit that made me uncomfortable in that regard). Most of the time it was adult, consenting women who worked independently because they were addicted to that life style and were addicted to drugs. I think women (the public) doesn’t want to acknowledge this aspect because they most people can’t even fathom why someone would choose that life. Their comfortable suburban upbringing just doesn’t allow them to see it.

In that world - girls like Cardi B are a dime a dozen. Every. Single. One. They all have that “I don’t care about all tha haterz no more and I don’t care who knowz it” attitude. Trying to act tough. And I guarantee you - every skinny little white bitch who grew up in the suburbs and loves Cardi B has seen one of those girls out in public and has judged the shit out of them. But they don’t realize that ratty white trash Ill-put together girl with a shadow of attractiveness (of days past) that they see - is in fact the reality of Cardi B.

Cardi B has made a successful character out of it because she’s cleaned it up ever so slightly. She kept a little bit of the edge - but she’s cleaned it up enough to separate it from the reality. But I feel like you can see that gritty past in her eyes.

She annoys the fuck out of me - partly because every time she has a quip - it takes me straight back to some stupid shit a call girl would say. I can respect her for getting out of that life. But the stark hypocrite of her popularity gets me every time.
