I think it's all hokum too. First, Mars isn't really habitable. We have to bring a sizable chunk of Earth with us just to make life there possible. Second, the knowledge that this is a one-way trip would have to weigh on the minds of everybody involved, and that can have unpredictable effects. Third---- on its best day, Mars makes the most hellacious place on Earth look like a paradise by comparison. You think women are squirrely now, you ain't seen nuthin' compared to what we'll get when the first all-female astronaut team lands on Mars--- and realizes everything I've just said and more also is unfortunately true.
