Women can't tell the difference between confidence and insecurity. What they mean by "confident" or "confident in every situation" is that the male displays confidence in a social setting, since women derive all the value of a man as how he's perceived socially.
It doesn't matter if that man leads to ruin. Women are not programmed to care or understand, as they didn't evolve to lead or be confident.

In other words, a fembabble 'confidence' means 'dominance'; i.e. they prefer 90/10 dominate men. Apply this lizard-brained way of looking at the world, and there is no such thing as 'phony' 'dominance'.

Yup. Women are dumb as dirt. Doesn't matter if you are a fuckup, only if she can't tell the difference then you're the King. That's why women later complain about bad boys later because they're wired to need/love dominance but also too stupid to see when a man's just too stupid to do anything but show off and rocket to ruin.
Women are dumb. Many men are dumb and mistaken for being confident.
Only another real actual alpha can tell when other men are just fakers right off the bat. Women will find out soon enough but their scorn over being fooled by a faker will lead to backlash.

My point is that the word 'confident', when chewed up and spit out of the mouths of women, is misleading. Simply replace 'confident' with 'dominance' and you will have a leg up on the subtext of female psychology.

There are some who just see it as a good thing to be confident as it may up their chances and that it fine considering the downside. I'm not one of those men because I don't think it is worth it but they exist.

Hmm - I recall an Olivia Newton-John track covering this - but of course, women back in the 70s were able to introspect. And ONJ was a bit of a CC rider in her time... blew up the odd marriage IIRC.
