Do you enjoy things that have a process or routine?

I've noticed this as well in myself, on various levels. E.g., my morning routine:

i) Wake up at 6am.

ii) Run 5k / weight train in the gym (i rotate this each day).

iii) Get home, have an ice cold shower.

iv) Manually grind beans and make a bullet proof coffee.

The whole coffee making process is meditative for me. I'm usually standing in the kitchen in my boxers post shower, and paying deep attention to each process of the coffee making. It may sound odd, but I also enjoy that 4 min wait whilst the coffee is brewing before I sink the plunger.

I then start work 0830 as a Software Developer, which thankfully is a job full of procedures and routines.

That is a good thing! I wanted to write something straight razor related after reading the title. I used my first straight razor for the first time on the weekend...

Any hobby that makes you focus, and that "absorbs" your thoughts providing a "flow experience)" is working. Preferably a hobby at which you are not mindlessly unproductive but create things or improve yourself (watching TV or collecting virtual trophies in a video game do not count imo): cooking, gardening, wood work, doing workouts (cardio and mobility get more important than just lifting weight's the older you get). In general, building stuff from scratch, repairing stuff, acquiring a new cognitive or motor skill.

On Sunday, I finally took the wet stones I bought 3 years ago from the shelf the first time and sharpened my cooking knifes. It took me 3h just sitting and sliding the blades across the wet stones. ALL (!) my ex-girlfriends would have declared me crazy because I would not have paid attention to them on a Sunday doing "useless" sharpening of knives. I was bad at doing it but I got better. It was relaxing and rewarding: the knives can now cut thinnest slices of a ripe tomato without applying pressure.

I'm in my 30s and I love to do routines in the morning and started doing things at 27. Makes me pumped and prepared for the day. And the best time is early before 6 am.

Ironically, when you're 18, everything needs to be today, but once you hit 40, you're ok with things taking time.

Same age OP. I find myself in a rather calm period in life TBH. I'm not doing that much in life and I'm perfectly happy about that. Sometimes people ask me and immediately draw the "are you depressed?" card. No I'm not. I would say if I were but I don't need to do all kinds of stuff ATM.

I just had a shave with a cutthroat. It's a good feeling. Much better shave than disposable razor. Give yourself some time, it took me about a year to have the technique mastered. Before that I saw a lot of blood.
