The sentiments behind this cartoon are bang on!

I own my own small business. The products it produces are used by hundreds of the most famous companies and organisations in the world. My customers are a Who's Who list of famous companies. I have tens and tens of emails from my customers telling me how much they like my products and how much better they are than the competition.

I've worked for big and small companies for many years before I started my own business. Once I started my own work, I started to have my first original ideas in my whole life. My own business truly allowed me to be creative and to express what I can do in a way working for other companies did not.

Yet when I was meeting women from online dating sites, they dismissed my business because I said I was self-employed. It was very obvious all the women I met were only interested in my job history and they were very blatant about it. Not at all subtle.

My girlfriend and her family still nag and harass me to do something about my job situation!

This is despite the above. They really are a pain and utterly clueless. Even when faced with the truth it goes over their heads.

So this cartoon does speak of a truth. Girlfriends and their female family members are really clueless and cannot see the worth of a business. All they are concerned about is easily packaged and understandable status.

They would prefer I waste my life and time, instead of being happier and making more money. Because they are idiots. You don't even need to hide anything from them, because they are too thick to see what is obvious.

There’s no way you could own a company and convince your significant other that you simply work at that company… What about all the calls? Emails? What about the tax stuff? I totally get the vibe, however no young man should think that hiding a business from a significant other is ever going to be a long-term possibility. It’s just not practical.
