Yea but personally I think the biggest problem with a lot of the teachings in the NT, especially when applied to modern society, is that it's a lot of connect the dots. It ends up with a lot of it based on how you interpret it and how honest you are. You could say that when you watch porn you don't lust after the person in the video. Whether that is true or not, we don't know. Cuz in the end it isn't porn that is sin but lusting over somebody. This leads to a lot of justification of ure actions thinking its OK.

That word "lust" is actually the greek word for "coveting", but is the only time in the Bible that it's mistranslated by modern western "churchianity" as "lust" (arousal). Jesus wasn't actually inventing a new command to not be turned on by people, but was connecting two of the ten commandments, showing how coveting someone's wife (notice He spoke of "adultery", not of the broader "sexual immorality") was simply the "lite" version of committing adultery. Read the surrounding context (anger vs murder, etc., Matt 5:21-32 ), and this interpretation totally fits way better. And this is where you get pissed at the frickin' religious/dogmatic/biased translators for trying to continue the Roman Catholic Church's control over you (in co-opting Christianity, Rome found threatening with hell was easier than threatening with the sword), because controlling your sexuality is the best way to have power over men. Jesus loves all of us and came to save everyone, just believe.

Never really thought that Jesus ever invented something new but emphasized more on the reasoning behind the laws of the old testiment and being ethical. There's a lot of good teachings there but concluding what is right and what is wrong ends up being a case by case scenario in most cases imo.

I honestly just think that the reason Jesus gave that example was to show that your actions are your desires manifested, and that in order to avoid doing reprehensible actions one has to push the desire out of their mind/heart. Kind of like how if a person's dieting it would be better to simply not have unhealthy food in their household rather than to have it full of garbage food and have to constantly force themselves to not eat it.
