What sucks about drones is the battery life and all the laws/regulations that the govt put in place. Like in Washington D.C. people cant fly drones in a 60 mile radius from the Ronald Reagan airport.

I get about 20 min per battery which is a good amount if you have preplanned what shots you want to get. And I have 3 batteries. After an hour of flight time you’re pretty well set IMO. You can always buy more batteries tho.
The regulations are indeed super annoying. If you download AirMap app it will show you all of the NFZs in your area. There are usually open pockets in certain areas that you can fly it.

I prefer building racing quads than buying a DJI. You can build three quads for the price of one DJI, depending on what parts you are buying. Of course.

I’m more in it for the photography and videography that the drone offers. But I can totally see the appeal of racing them because they are fun as hell to fly.
