My most valuable advice is to learn to understand the USA's capitalist fight with communism both historically and ideologically.

Next ask yourself, when the government is able to tell you when to wake up, when to go to sleep, when to do 50 pushups and when to kill, how is that different than communism?

Finally, take advantage of all the free stuff available to you with the understanding that it's not really free, but you're not paying for it.

Save whatever you get - don't spend it like an idiot.
Don't know if you've gone through basic yet but -- Basic training is just a game. Really, don't be the one that stands out, do what you are asked and you will be fine. Be a team player. When your buddies get kitchen duty when out in the field, make sure you and your buds help them so they can eat to. Think of the people next to you, don't think just about yourself.
Young guys joining up are at max testosterone levels, the call of poon will be very very hard to avoid but the best thing you can do is still, avoid it at all costs. There's a whole gagglefuck of guys who got screwed by Dependapotamous women. Don't be one of those guys. "Don't be that guy".
Biggest cause of suicide is divorce. Don't get married while serving.
Make sure you have a backup choice for your MOS, you don't always get what you want as first pick so make sure you pick a good second choice unless you're exceptional.
If you go to college, make sure you go to a technical college.

There's a lot of dumb guys that sign up, and a few smart ones too ... befriend the smart ones.

Don't spend your meager earnings.

It will be tempting but don't. It might ostracise you, but if you play your cards right, you can finish your enlistment with 30k in the bank, which is a good start towards your eventual financial freedom.
