I'm 40 years old, and the last hold out of my single friends gave up his balls December last year. We'll call him Sam. He's my "newest" friend, even though I have known him since 2011. We used to hang out a lot especially on weekends doing everything from going out to eat, to bars, to paintball, white water rafting, comic conventions, board games, (yeah we're nerds so what?? :) ) fishing, video games, movie night, whatever. It's now July and I've seen him three times since he's been married. I see defeat in his eyes and hear it in his voice. The last time I saw him was June when we went to the big comic convention in town he loves to go to. This was his 8th year going with us. He brought his wife along, and they only stayed maybe 2 hours. Before, Sam would happily spend all day there. When they were about to leave, I was polite enough to ask his wife "Did you enjoy it?" She just shook her head angrily and said "No!". I looked at Sam who looked like a beaten dog. Later that day, we met up for dinner and I asked him if he had seen John Wick 3 yet. Sam used go to the movies nearly every weekend, even alone if we couldn't join him, and would usually watch whatever the big opening movie that weekend was. His reply? "No, man, I haven't been to the movies in SOOOO long".

All of my other long time friends I grew up with are all married now, some have been divorced and remarried, and all except Sam have kids. I try to plan stuff to do with them as some moved nearby me again. But even then it's a crapshoot, and not even a 50/50 most of the time.

The reason I bring this up is I see a lot of posts here from guys (particularly younger) always asking "How can I not get bored" or "I'm lonely with no one around!". Guys, the key is having hobbies that YOU enjoy. I've noticed a lot of people today, especially younger ones, don't have hobbies. Or their "hobby" is spending time on facebook and other places watching stupid videos, posting pictures trying to be "Cool", and trying to get validation from everyone online. Maybe they think if they do something like going to karaoke, people will see them as "uncool". But who cares?? I keep myself entertained with hobbies that I can do alone, OR in groups. I just mentioned comic conventions. So what if people laugh or look at me weird when I tell them I go to them? I have a blast and meet other like minded people. I play guitar, and I like to sing. For example, people, especially women, snicker when I tell them I love karaoke. The thing is I can sing and play guitar at home and have fun, or if I can find an open mic and jam, or a bar doing karaoke that's fun too. When I tell girls that, I'm viewed as "pathetic" but I don't care. I also study astronomy and have a number of telescopes I can setup to look at the stars. I can do that alone, or with other people. Same for martial arts. I've been studying martial arts for close to 26 years. I practice a lot alone but I attend and teach classes a couple of times a week and also visit other dojos.

Keep yourself busy, and if like minded guys are around great, but if not, you still can be happy!
