So there i was... Talking to a feminist (what can i say... I'm a glutton for punishment). We were discussing sexism in the workplace.

Her: "I have irrefutable proof that women are discriminated against by employers. "

Me: "OK... Wow me. "

Her: "My sister applied for a job at a local factory and they wouldn't hire her. She's a great employee. She never misses work, she always punctual, she's a hard worker, she was in the military. They wouldn't hire her just because she's a woman. "

Me: "doesn't your sister have a kid?"

Her: "she has three kids."

record scratch

Me: "well no shit they wouldn't hire her. I wouldn't hire her either. She's a single mother with three kids. First of all, i can guarantee you that she's not punctual nor a reliable employee. Why would a company, especially a factory, hire someone who's going to call in every time little Suzy has a sniffle or little Johnny has a dentist appointment. They want someone who won't miss their shift and who can be relied upon to be at work when they're supposed to. So why would they give the job to your sister when they can give it to a man who will put the company first and be relied upon? Second of all... She wasn't 'in the military'. She was a desk jockey for the National Guard. That won't get you extra soup at a soup kitchen, let alone special consideration for employment.

There's no such thing as sexism in corporate hiring practices. The only thing a company cares about is its bottom line. If they could get away with paying women less, they would do so and only hire women. Since you're bitching that they're not hiring women, we can quickly deduce that they're not paying women less. If they are going to shell out money for an employee, they want to get the best bang for their buck, so they'll hire the best employee for the position. If the only thing your sister is apparently good at is pushing out children, then she's not the best qualified candidate for employment. That's not sexism, that's reality. This isn't exactly quantum mechanics we're talking about here... It's barely even economics 101.

Her: "no, it's sexism. You're wrong. This is why we need feminism. "

*I quickly bash my own skull against the wall and die... Mercifully ending both the conversation and my suffering. *

If this doesn't prove that women (and by extention feminists) are dumber than a box of rocks, then i don't know what does. This is a real conversation i had. The stupidity is strong with this one.
