It sounds like you can't read a company's balance sheet, let alone evaluate their potential vis a vis competition or anything else. You are, however, doing an awesome job by starting so young and getting a plan in place.
I posted something about this earlier, but the advice is worth repeating. Warren Buffett, seen by many as the greatest investing mind in history, recommended that non-professionals (like me and you) put the equity portion of their portfolio in a no load, low fee mutual fund. He named the Vanguard S&P 500 specifically. It's worth googling the articles out there about this recommendation, as well as the 10 million dollar (I think it was 10) bet he won recently by putting that very mutual fund against a handful of well managed hedge funds. I think the recommendation is 90% in the mutual fund and 10% in bonds.
That said, the general advice is to pay off high interest debt first. I don't know what you're paying interest-wise on the student loans, but I'd look at that first. My personal benchmark was 4%. Anything over that got paid off immediately. Turned out, I paid it all off just so I didn't have to think about it anymore. Financially, in hindsight, that wasn't the smartest move, but the stress reduction was worth it.
I lived on beans and rice, and severely restricted my entertainment budget until I was out of debt. Took me about 18 months after I graduated to pay it all off. My peers are all slaving away at their jobs right now with tens of thousands in debt still looming. I retired early. They only now understand that beans and rice was the way to go.
