Well... In the eighties, when I was told to "man up", the next words from the men who told me were words of analysis (of the problem) and the direction a man would take, and encouragement to do it. "Man up" was not used in instances involving girls, but in instances of laziness. For me, it was a call to a work ethic, not a path to be a simp.
And, these same men would remember and follow up with positivity when they saw accomplishment, or at least effort. It was their masculine heritage, because they were proud to be men. I learned to be, too.

Will we all live long enough for men to put women in their place. Don't care if they don't like it. We control everything, according to them. Let's go with that plan and control everything and give them nothing to say about it. Change marriage laws, for those who must get married.

I helped provide sensitivity training about the Holocaust recently at a group that I go to. Two of the girls ran out crying because the Holocaust was "triggering" to them. One of these girls was the reason why we had to provide sensitivity training about the Holocaust.
