I have a better understanding with my dog than I ever did in 10 years of marriage. Best thing to come from it was the dog.

I adopted an 8 year old dog about three weeks ago. He just threw up on my sofa and shat all over my kitchen and I still love him. Didn’t love cleaning it up but he seems genuinely surprised that he’s not getting punished. Fuck his previous owner. She had him locked in a cage ~16 hours a day and he was covered in matted fur and had scabs on his head where she’s clearly beaten him. He wouldn’t even walk through a doorway he was so messed up. Had to put towels/blankets down through all my houses thresholds to get him comfortable moving around the place initially. She never walked the guy so he’s been a lot of work getting him built back up but I had him walk the last mile of our 3 mile walk off leash the other day and he did the best job of any dog I’ve had the pleasure to care for. And he’s absolutely buzzing whenever he sees me. Spins round and tippy tappys and hes a tiny dog and managed to jump over a 30” arm rest last night so I’m gonna take him to the local bark park for some barkour sessions soon and see how he gets on with that. And maybe he can come running with me when he’s a bit more ready. Ps, he’s caught two flies this morning and he’s very pleased with himself.

It's the top comment there on original post too but that's also with me. Never had dog because i know he/she will die some years (10-20) later and being with someone good just leaving you forever hurts right in heart and guts. My friend's dog died two years ago and i couldn't stop thinking about that whole day.
