Been saying this for years.

Whenever someone says "man up", it always involves the man being goaded into doing something that is good for a) the speaker, who is usually a woman, b) society, that depends on men c) women, but in general. Often, the actions that the man is being goaded into are actually harmful to his wellbeing.

The proper response to this question is "what's in it for me?". Try it sometime and watch how quickly they shut down.
