It took me five!!! ... let's call them "commitment tests" with my last gf to figure out it really wasn't about any insecurity on her part or other issue I could help her with or offer reassurance; Nor did she apparently sincerely question my commitment.
I'm not sure what she got out of it, maybe just a little ego kick, or it might have been entertaining for her to watch me squirm emotionally speaking.
Regardless of her reasoning, my affection for her naturally withered with each subsequent "test" until it ran dry.
She was actually genuinely surprised and hurt when she tried to pull it a sixth time and I just told her to pack her shit and leave. After which she had a minor meltdown and I was the ass... it doesn't matter what you do, you "lose".
I wish I could be as heartless and still be okay with myself, that'd make life a lot easier.

Holy shit I had this exact same thing happen about 3-4 years ago. My "gf" at the time completely blew up at me over the tiniest disagreement and then said she was leaving me. My response? "There's the door."

hahhaha same thing happened to me.. but the stupid Ex did it through text! can you imagine that. She texted me the break up. I didn't even reply and ghosted her.
