Now that I am no longer that guy it’s funny. I was at a large busy restaurant last night watching the NBA finals with a few friends. There were 4 tables in our section with 3/4 guys cheering, drinking, tagging each other and having fun. Then there were 4 couples in their late 20’s-mid 30's. They were clearlt married or in LTR's. The guys looked miserable. The couples were all attractive, the types you frquently find in upscale suburbs. None had kids with them. The girls would just talk and talk and talk while these guys stared blankly trying to watch the game. I knew exactly how they felt because I was there 24 months ago.

Of course men did complain. Be it in comics (e.g. The Lockhorns) or standup ("Take my wife ... please!") or any other place it was acceptable to convey unpalatable truths, the real picture emerged.

Also to remember is that before the civil rights era, men could gather in male-only spaces. Since our rights of free association have been revoked, you have to let women join any organization, club or society these days.

When there are any self-reported surveys of how happy men are in their marriages, always keep this in mind. Their slave owners have forced or conditioned them into responding that they're happy.
