I think if you want to look for good examples of women in film, no better time period can be found than the late 1970's.

Back then you had two films, Halloween (1978, staring Jamie Lee Curtis) and Alien (1979, staring Sigourney Weaver), which included tough, no-nonsense female characters that weren't mere copies of characters done first by men. They did far more for women in film than any woman before or since.

These days, all the "fem-power" remakes of male classics (Force Awakens, Ghostbusters, this "Oceans Ocho") can only ever mean one thing; that men did it first, and the best women can hope to do today is to replicate what men have already done, and hope that with enough public relations and misogyny shaming, they can come close to disenchanting these films for the men who remember them fondly.

In short, nothing in these films show women as creative, as cultural pioneers, as memorable, as strong, or independent from "patriarchal" culture. Instead, they do the opposite; they show women as hopelessly wedded to the status-quo, worthy of only well-worn scripts better suited to men, easily forgotten, too weak to take a risk, and joined at the hip to whatever the "patriarchy" did first.

In short, these films do not show that women are capable of moving forward. They only show that the best women can ever hope to do is to mock the past.

Low budget + new tricks to get viewers to see the movie during week 1 == they'll declare it a massive success.

That's if the 11 women can stop being catty and actually let the men behind the scenes complete their movie.

Which brings to mind a probability puzzle : what is the probability that with 11 women on the cast, at least 2 have an ongoing period on any given day? (Assume 366 days in a year, 30.5 days per month on the average)

Pfft, the reason an all female bank robbing organization would fail is the same reason an all team of ghostbusters would fail or any other all female organization; women DON'T SHOW UP FOR WORK.

Half of them are late, not getting in until noon, the other half calling in sick or with 1 million other lame excuses, taking extended vacations, suddenly quitting with no warning, leaving early and on and on and of course women make horrendous choices, have stupid priorities (the bitch who would be in charge of opening the safe inside the bank wouldn't be there when the others showed up, having to leave to go do something petty and stupid like fix her hair) and are complete flakes and have extremely poor abilities to make intelligent choices.

Actually this is a good thing. The next time Jennifer Lawrence or some other starlet blames sexism for not being paid as much for a minor role as her far more experienced male costars are paid for a starring role, we can hold this movie up to show that experience matters.

Not that there won't be some other controversy about pay or ratings...

Why would the studios even sign onto this? I can actually see it doing pretty well, but where the hell is the money coming from? Surely the heads of the big studios are smarter in business than to look at the idea of an all-female remake right after the huge flop that was Ghostbusters and think "Sure, great idea, greenlighted!"

It may work. The cast sounds terrific but, it won't begin to fly without a good story. That seems to be the chief weakness of most present day movies. I would also advise keeping the costs to a minimum.

If they do the same "make a shitty movie and call critics misogynists"-trick as they did with ghostbusters, it will flop. If they just make a good movie, it could do well. But the oceans eleven franchise is a bit used up I think. They would really have to write a great script to make this movie a success. They cannot just float on the success of the previous movies.

I never get the need to take an already established story and just changing the male characters to female. It's like some fan fiction a guy would write if he was feeling horny... What if a rule 63 fan fiction of this movie's original already exists?
