Use a bidet. A roll of toilet paper will last weeks. Since switching to one a few years ago I'm still amazed it hasn't taken hold in the US. It's cheaper, easier, cleaner and better for the environment, but people still insist on smearing shit all over their asses with paper.

I was taught the same method as you when I was younger. As an adult, I changed things up a bit. I now use wet wipes (cottonelle/Amazon basics) first. They’re thick enough that you can use one or two and then fold them for another wipe. Repeat until mostly or completely clean, then follow up with 5-6 TP squares bunched up to finish the cleaning and dry the area. Works well for me. If it’s truly messy and I know I’m going to kill a tree or two to get clean, I might just hop in the shower and clean it off with water.

I know some people are switching to bidets which apparently reduces or eliminates the need for wipes and/or TP. I bought one and it’s on its way to me to try so I can’t speak on its efficacy until then. It seems so foreign to me, but worth a shot.

Also, there’s apparently a debate out there about sitting down vs standing up to wipe and which one is more effective. What do you think?

The way I was taught growing up poor is to only use one square. You take the square and tear a small hole in the middle. Be sure to set the torn out hole to the side. Next put your middle finger through the hole and and stick it and the tp up your ass and wiggle your finger around up there. Next remove finger and grasp the tp around your finger while slightly twisting and pulling to remove the crap off your finger. Lastly use the little piece that you set aside to get the crap out from under your nail.

With as little as possible but so I dont get stinky fingers lol pull off 6 sheets or so fold it in half then half again.
