Indeed, I've had a few LTR's over the last 30 years or so and I can say that AWALT - they will continuously attempt to dominant you, usually its through emotional manipulation and their sharp tongues.
Ignoring them and staying in control with your dominance for a time is the best tactic, then using patience, logic and reasoning easily defeats them as they are weak by comparison in these areas. Our challenge is to love them and their challenge is to submit.

I guess its because we simply don't get it at first -- we just follow our basic biology and socialization - in a "monkey see, monkey do" behavioral fashion.
