Well, that's a highly subjective statement. "A good man takes in homeless women and cares for them without expecting anything in return!" "A good man kills 10 kitten before breakfast!"

Good intentions are nice and all, but it's easy to do yourself and others wrong, and to be taken advantage of, if you don't have direction. I don't agree with his statement.

This is a quote from “Meditations” which was Marcus Aurelius’ personal diary. No one even read it until after he was dead. He was a stoic and I suspect this was a personal reminder that other people would not live the way he wanted them to, and not to despair over their shortcomings. It was about the exact opposite of virtue signaling.

"Good" men die in war. "Good" men simp for dried up whores. "Good" men sacrifice their personal desires for the benefit of others. Good is subjective.

Be a better you instead of a "good" man, and you'll live a better life for it.
