I wonder if it will occur to him how, once married, he'll be legally entangled with the state when considering what he "should do" about situations like this. Presently he can shut the whole thing down and walk away, or at least enforce boundaries and make demands before proceeding. Once he's signed the contract with the state (marriage) he'll legally be subjected to scrutiny for "financial abuse." Hopefully someone pointed that out to him in the comments section.
