Kettlebell Recommendations?

I use kettlebells. And I also use dumbbells for bench press, and a curl bar for the obvious, as well as dumbbells to do bent over rows. I'm 40, and didn't get serious about lifting again until about four years ago after I hadn't done it probably for at least 10 and maybe 15 years. I only mention that because if you're older be concerned more with strength than trying to impress some bro at a gym.

without knowing you, the average seems to be to start with either a 25 pound or 35 lb kettlebell. But if you've been working out for a while you might be able to use a heavier weight. I did exactly what I just said. I used it primarily for single arm overhead shoulder presses. I know some people prefer dumbbells, but I find the kettlebell weight is simpler and easier to hold on the chest when I'm putting it in the rack position.

the problem is with everything being shut down since March supplies of gym equipment are dire. I've wanted to buy a 45 pound kettlebell for 2 months but have not been able to because nobody has them.

I like using kettlebells, and want to buy a 45 pound kettlebell to continue doing shoulder presses, but also just to use for its compact size to go for a walk. Single arm Farmers carry is great for core strength forearm strength, shoulder and traps, yet doesn't require other equipment and is nice and compact. Yes, plenty of people can come up with all sorts of reasons why you shouldn't, but sometimes it's just personal preference.

If you live in a building with stairs that hopefully have some form of ventilation because the air might stink, you could take a 35 or 45 lb kettlebell alternate between arms and walk all the way up and all the way down and get an excellent work out.

Is this for a gym or home? If you're in a gym, I would stick to the basics: bench, pullups (weighted when you can), squat, and maybe overhead press.

There's nothing special about kettlebells. They are just a fitness fashion trend.
