Yet Ben and Jerry still manage to fuck it up.
[–]EvilPencil15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The actual Ben and Jerry sold out. Now the ice cream is made by some big corporation with all the usual cost-cutting measures and SJW programming.

They are still on the board of directors, and proudly smiled for their twitter photo of their "Pecan Resist" ice cream. Meanwhile none of Unilever's other brands, including Breyers ice cream, has felt the need to enter politics. I'd say the responsibility for their brand's activism lies directly with Ben and Jerry themselves.

What did they do???
[–]Truth_or_GTFO5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
They recently released a pecan ice cream called "Resist".
From their website: " We can peacefully resist the Trump administration’s regressive and discriminatory policies and build a future that values inclusivity, equality, and justice for people of color, women, the LGBTQ community, refugees, and immigrants. "

That sounds like SJW turd flavour ice cream. I don't want to eat an SJW turd.

LinkedIn: did we show you that Steve Jobs meme yet? We've got another one for you.
LinkedIn: here's a Richard Branson meme, but we're going to show you another Steve Jobs meme just because.

I wonder if men like Steve Jobs are even anywhere close to as amazing as the image they gave us potrayed them as.
I bet alot of these men are actually not any better then people like you and me, they just used the status equivalent of photoshop to remove how average they really are.

He was sort of a scumbag. Wozniak was the real genius.
[–]boytjie3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've heard that as well. I read a biography of him once, and he did some really nasty and mean stuff in the early days of Apple.
[–]Resubliminator1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Without Jobs Wozniak would have simply continued to work at HP and he would have never had the success he had at Apple. Also Wozniak hasn't contributed any tech innovation to Apple since the early 80s. So yea, he was a brilliant engineer but Jobs was definitely more genius/visionary.
[–]massy5253 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
To be fair Wozniak suffered severe brain damage in the early 80's from an airplain accident. He himself has said that he lost something of his intellect in the accident. I believe he said it was along the lines of before the accident he could visualize the logic and circuitry required for a project in his head. Afterwards he was not able to do this any longer.
[–]Resubliminator0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Read his biography, he was definitely a visionary and has rightfully earned his popularity. And this is coming from someone who never owned an Apple product and never will. But Steve as a person is an absolute legend and he's selfmade, unlike someone like Bill Gates who had rich parents, went to a private school, got daddy's money to go to Harvard and never had to worry about anything.
[–]Sir_manalot1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Not saying you are wrong but biographies are not a good way to actually find the truth of things when so many are filled with exagerrations and half-truths.
Perhaps he is amazing.
But with how many people I realized are nowhere near as great as they potray themselves as, it is impossible to really know for sure unless you were there personally.
That is just the kind of world we live in.
[–]IamBili0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The word "self-made" alone is enough to suspect of everything that you say, and to suspect that his biography is nothing more than a post-mortem propaganda of himself
"Rags to riches" stories are touching, but you can only get so far with them . And, depending on how below you are and how ambitious you are to rise to the top, you'll have to rely on a lot of help, you'll have to bring others down, and with it, make several enemies along the path . There's no "self-made" shortcut here, that's just "self-help" mumbo jumbo
Or corporate mumbo jumbo idk
[–]Sir_manalot2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is another aspect I forgot to mention.
Those that truly go from rags to riches know the importance of those that helped him achieve success.
If you want to understand how ridiculous "self-made" is, watch Star Wars: The Last Jedi and understand why Rey's character is awful.
People who end up successful have a lot of help from wise and intelligent people, along with people willing to financially back and thousands to millions of individuals willing to build
Without thess things, you end up with a smart man hitting minor notes of success or has tons of money , status and power given to him by other people.
Obviously, if Steve didn't have the potential to achieve great things or the will, he would of failed disregardless of outside help. But like Rey, people do not become "masters" by teaching themselves and rolf stomping the Masters.
[–]Resubliminator1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
The thing about selfmade is not that you can't receive help from others. Any successful inventor, company founder, scientist or whatever obviously had people that cooperated with them and that inspired them. But they don't get the help out of pity. They get it because they ask for it, or further more they were so convincing that others thought it would be a good thing to support them.
It's not like Wozniak and the early Apple investors approached Jobs with their ideas, it was the other way around. Also you have to realize that personal computers weren't a big industry at that time. There were some technical developments in that direction, but very few people realized that it would be an innovation that will change the world.
https://youtu.be/3H-Y-D3-j-M?list=FLXFuNAj8S5EfQ34Ol56We0Q&t=340
Check out this this interview and you will see how visionary he actually was. That't not some sales talk he's doing, he definitely knows what he's talking about. Extremely interesting how he mentions decentralizing power, if you think about it, that is exactly what personal computers and the internet do. I think there's much more meaning behind Apple and its innovations than most people realize.

Unpopular opinion...
Wanna make people happy? - sell the illusion of choice!
Ice-cream... Despite the flavor... Its all essentially the same commodity.
Apple - great example! "We are choice"... Riiiight.. So which components fit inside?
