Hey guys, asked a friend where I should post this. He mentioned Reddit. Don't plan on staying, but here's the situation.

Father committed suicide when I was in high school, and my mother has always been an alcoholic and emotional abuser her whole life, shielded and enabled by her rabidly religious family (one of those "my baby can do no wrong" type things).

I haven't had a family for 14 years, always have hung out with friend's families and asked their fathers/grandfathers for advice.

It really didn't hit me until this year. Joined the military right out of high school because I didn't want to be homeless. Essentially, been on my own since 17 and have been doing just fine.

Fast forward....

Started my own IT consulting business in the US a few years ago, and it's going really well. I enjoy the freedom and actually like the long hours, my customers are happy and I am growing to the point where I need to hire 2 more analysts.

But lately, I've had this phenomenon of friends simply disavow me and stop talking to me. They are all married for in long term relationships. Finally confronted them this last weekend about it, and they think that I am very "off-putting" for not seeking a woman to share my life or success with. They think I am a misogynist who hates women. Quite the contrary. I got out, and have had a flings and one night stands like any "normal" guy in his late 20's.

The point:

I have no one to rely on. If something happens to me financially, or with my health, I am truly alone. I have to be VERY careful, especially with my business and health, to ensure that my future is still there instead of put in the hands of unnecessary risk or a ridiculous judge. Is it normal for your friends to feel this way about "the last single guy"?
