Substitute "down with bourgeois capitalist laptop" with "privileged white male/smash the patriarchy".

Substitute the utopian (i.e. impossible) "Maoist worker's paradise/dictatorship of the proletariat" with "absolute equality of outcome for women, LGBT, minorities etc. through preferential policies"

Even Mao had trouble trying to control them towards the end.

The Cultural Revolution not only destroyed free-thinking in China, it also destroyed millennia of Chinese history. So much art got smashed, so many books lost. And Chairman Mao was so genius about it. He got the kids when they were young. He radicalized the most susceptible populace.

This is the danger of of our modern fourth-wave feminism. Because kids nowadays have access to so much information at a young age without the proper guidance from role models and schools, they are in danger of being radicalized at a young age before their brains are capable of truly separating their emotions, logic, and instincts. This is what's so concerning. There are so many kids who are already "Liberals" or "conservatives" or "feminists" etc by the time they get to college. What do they know about the real world? The earlier humans are radicalized, the harder it is to see the other sides of the issues. A very documented phenomenon called "confirmation bias" plays into this. In addition to this, the more one's entrenched beliefs get attacked, the more painful it is emotionally for the mind (because our mind wants to protect ourselves, and having our paradigms changed is a very reward, but painful process). So when you have radicalization at such a young age, it leads to such painful transition to the light later on in life.

I suspect that part of the reason it took this woman so long to share her experiences (50 years) is because it took her that long to come to terms with her radicalization and admit that she helped bring Chinese society back many decades through Chairman Mao's genius brainwashing of the Chinese population.
