TLDR: In two random occasions I'm told to consider joining the freemasons. It seems to have similarities between MGTOW. Should I?

One former colleague and an acquaintance have stated to me that I should consider joining the 'freemasons'. Both told another in my presence that the message was specifically for me. Given those direct recommendations I had to research a little bit.

Freemasons apparently stand for:

  • brotherhood
  • freedom
  • not a 'religion'
  • personal responsibility
  • belief in utopia

Similarities

That seems very similar to MGTOW!

For example - from a historic perspective these are brotherhoods - for MEN only. Just as the MEN in MGTOW. They belief in FREEDOM and RESPONSIBILITY. GYOW anyone? Where an individual should be held responsible for their actions.

'Know thyself' is also a key theme. Working on yourself, not on others, is something they strongly advocate. Their philosophical ideas are pretty strong - which is apparently what they discuss a lot.

Differences

There is not a clear distinction between Men and Women. Although it is a brotherhood since its origin, in many countries nowadays sisterhoods or even mixed 'Lodges' have formed (feminist infiltration...?).

The freemasons have initiation rituals which MGTOW doesn't have. As well as many religious references. Additionally, they belief in an utopia given certain circumstances, which is also not related to MGTOW.

Conclusion

I'm still not clear with my thoughts on this, but realistically I do not look forward meeting a cult of elder men.
