Not much change here. Perk of socializstsm is "free" blood tests for all sorts of things. And her having to take it with you and waiting that week or so is a male version of "shit test" - not shitting, but testing for whether one of the pair is shit.

First it's HTLV-1 (The "T" before the "L"). Second it's really not "new"; nor is it the only STD that can cause cancer. Third, a condom probably ISN'T sufficient "protection." Fourth -- please note that it is a VIRUS and not a BACTERIA -- IOW this is not a case of it becoming "resistant to antibiotics" (antibiotics don't do squat shit against viral diseases). Next, the cancers from oncogenic viruses (or oncoviruses) can occur many years, even decades (like a looooong-fuse time bomb) after the initial infection.

Finally, like many other such sexually/intimate-contract transmitted oncogenic viruses, it is indeed apparently becoming more virulent as rampant promiscuity(and global "sex tourism" doesn't help) continues to lower the barriers to the more virulent mutant types.
